vegetable oils

The oil and fat industry is one of the growth drivers of Russia’s agro-industrial complex. At the end of last year, local domestic producers produced over 10.4 million tons of vegetable oils, which is 6.9% more than in 2023.

In particular, 8 million tons of sunflower oil (+11.7%) and about 1.1 million tons of soybean oil (+9.6%) were produced.

Russia’s self-sufficiency exceeds the threshold value of the Food Security Doctrine by 2.8 times. Due to this, the country is one of the world leaders in the export of these products.

According to Mikhail Maltsev, Executive Director of the Russian Oil and Fat Union, the increase in vegetable oil output is the result of the Ministry of Agriculture’s consistent policy to increase oilseed production and protect the domestic processing market.

Today, the Russian oil and fat industry is increasing its production capacity at a faster pace, which makes it possible to expand the area under oilseed crops every year. For example, in 2024, modernization and new construction projects will increase processing capacity by almost 1 million tons.
