10 new grape varieties have been developed in Russia, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture reported. The promising varieties are adapted to the climatic conditions of our country.
Last year, specialists of the State Variety Commission completed another multi-year cycle of testing of 96 grape varieties. As a result, 10 new varieties were entered into the State Register of Selection Achievements, nine of which are achievements of domestic breeding.
It is noted that the main part of developments falls on the enterprises and research centers of the southern regions of Russia. However, grape breeding is also actively engaged in the central part of the country, in the Urals and Siberia.
“Valentina“, ‘Zolotse’, ‘Shatilov’s Gift’, ‘Sukholimansky White’ and other promising varieties are adapted to cultivation in the climatic conditions of our country, are characterized by high yields, resistant to diseases and pests”, — stated in the message.
The “Sibiryak Potapenko” variety, bred by breeders in Eastern Siberia, withstands frost and is disease-free. The “Solaris Tamansky” grape, registered in the North Caucasus, is excellent for the production of high-quality dry wines.
Russian winemakers successfully use grapes of domestic selection in production. Thus, the deputy general director of the winery “Fanagoria” Igor Serdyuk, whose words are quoted in the message, notes the high adaptation of the plant to the climatic conditions of wine regions of Russia, its frost resistance and suitability for cultivation in conditions of contrasting continental climate.
The largest producer in our country “Kuban-wine” also actively uses Russian varieties. According to Kuban winemakers, their advantages are optimal harvesting dates and higher yields.
